Dr. Hewatt “Mac” Sims, MD
A Tifton native, Dr. Hewatt “Mac” Sims is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon whose practice blends interventional pain management with advanced, minimally invasive surgical care. After earning his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia and went on to fellowship training in spine surgery at the Denver Spine Education and Research Institute.
Dr. Sims treats the full spectrum of neck and back conditions with a conservative-first philosophy, offering precise diagnosis, evidence-based nonoperative and interventional therapies, and—when needed—minimally invasive procedures designed to reduce tissue disruption, postoperative pain, and recovery time. Committed to serving South Georgia, he is currently seeing patients in Douglas, Tifton, and Valdosta.

Josh Hughes, ANP-BC

Josh Hughes is a board-certified adult nurse practitioner specializing in the evaluation and non-surgical management of spine, neck, and back conditions. A South Georgia native at heart, Josh blends advanced clinical training with a down-to-earth, patient-first approach—focusing on precise diagnosis, education, and step-wise treatment plans that help patients move better and hurt less.
Josh earned his BSN from Valdosta State University in 2007 and completed a Master’s in Nursing Practice (Adult Medicine) in 2012. Throughout his career, he has held various roles in both acute and outpatient settings. Today, he works alongside Dr. Mac Sims, coordinating conservative therapies and interventional care pathways tailored to each patient’s goals.
